Self-extinguishing resins are resins which allow the supports on which they are coated not to propagate the flame, better to stop combustion! We will see together their properties, their uses, but also the correspondence to the strict standards in force.

The service of SEG search has developed a whole range of resin Self-extinguishing, that is to say a resin whose main action is to allow the support on which it is applied, to not propagate flames, nor by deteriorating, therefore propagating fumes or toxic residues. This range meets the standard NF EN 45 545-2 which specifies reaction to fire performance requirements for materials and products used in railway vehicles. This is a very strict standard! It also meets the criteria R22 (indoor use) and R23 (outdoor use). All our tested supports are recognized HL3, the best clue! The resin deposited on our various supports allows to obtain a classification VTM0 therefore not to ignite for more than 10 seconds after the end of each burner application and not to propagate the combustion by means of flaming drops on the wadding located under the test specimen.

Laboratory test
These standards allow us to ensure that the complex (the part coated with this resin) will not propagate the flame and therefore will not reach the critical threshold in terms of opacity and smoke toxicity and, moreover, will maintain a level of vital and essential oxygen in the event of the evacuation of people.
We have these resins on different supports:
  • Polyester felts
  • DMD (felt polyester felts)
  • Polyester films
  • Glass fabrics
The resins deposited are of the epoxy type modified, prepolymerized and reactivatable when hot.
Their thermal class is 180 ° C "H".
Of course, this range of resin can be deposited on any type of support, subject to approval of the coated complex, because each complex must, in the end, meet the standard. NF EN 45545-2.

A fireproof complex
In addition, we can also use our self-extinguishing agent on impregnation varnishes. Depending on the needs, each coated substrate must also be individually tested.
Even if this range of self-extinguishing resin has been developed in accordance with the standards of the railway industry, which I remind you are the strictest, for obvious reasons of passenger safety, it can be used in many other areas. These self-extinguishing resins are already found in motors, electro brakes, window seals, power supply lines (insulators, switches, main circuit breakers), coils for dry transformers, insulation of motor windings. traction, lines and hoses for fuels, oils, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems ...
It is therefore based on the most rigorous standards that SEG has created its range of self-extinguishing resin, combining as always experience and innovation. Our pole of research continues its work to find innovative solutions to make possible the impregnation of these resins on ever more supports, and to ensure ever more safety.
