    The French automobile sector consists of 4000 companies, 400 direct and indirect jobs, 000% of turnover in the manufacturing industry, with 18 million vehicles produced in 2,2. France, which was the second largest producer country automotive production in Europe until 2019, now ranks fifth among producing countries, i.e. 2011% of automotive production in Europe in 6,7, against 2016% in 13,7.

    The sector, which had already lost 120.000 jobs in France in fifteen years has been severely affected by the health crisis, with the shutdown of factories and the closure of concessions during confinement.

    To support the sector, the President of the Republic presented last May a plan of more than 8 billion euros in aid and investment. Environmental and competitiveness requirements, against a backdrop of slowing global growth and trade tensions, the desire for “Made in France” and the evolution of demand, are all challenges that the sector will have to meet with heavy investments.

    What scenarios are now emerging in the medium term for the automotive industry? What are the prospects for the sector in France? What strategy for a more competitive industry? How to relocate production, when equipment manufacturers and manufacturers are today largely globalized? How can the automotive industry, undergoing technological change, remain one of the most efficient in France?
